Remember: Pick one homework section to do every night. Spelling should be done every night for a short period of time and ALWAYS spend some snuggle time reading together! Use the bookmark that was sent home at Open House to key into what to do when there is a word you need to figure out. Choose some of the strategies on the bookmark to model with your child.
MATH HOMEWORK: Think of number stories that are to ten. Words to continue using this week are: How many more will it take to make ten?
How many fewer is six to ten?
What is three doubled? How many is six doubled?
How many are left when three eggs are taken from a full carton of eggs?
If four and six are ten, then how many is six and four more?
Use pennies or other trinkets to show the kids these mathematical concepts
Name coins and know their values. There are still students who are unaware of the coin names and their values despite us going over them often in class. We will be tested on these this week so please help your child know the coin value and names of all the coins.
SCIENCE HOMEWORK: We will be introducing the scientific process of:
1. Observe
2. Classify
3. Order (first, next last)
4. Investigate
5. Draw a Conclusion
If you would like to do some additional science work at home doing this process, please write down what you did and send to school on Thursday. Your child will have an opportunity to share the scientific process he/she used to complete his/her project. Examples include: Organizing a drawer in his/her dresser; What is the best way to build a sand castle; Make a path to a family members house.
WRITING HOMEWORK: Write about what you did after you got home from school to dinner time.
Write about what you had for your afternoon snack and what it tasted like. Write about your family and something you did together this week.
